Where do I list cash assistance on my tax form?

My husband and I were both laid off in November almost at the same time and had no other choice but to go on welfare in December. Well actually, it's a program called DWP. Anyway my question is where do I list the amount of money we received for this on my tax form? Do I include it under wages, tips, etc. or ??? This is not from "unemployment" it is assistance from a government program through our county. Thanks.

  1. Welfare isn't taxable, unemployment is. http://www.irs.gov/ Tax 1040 Free Self-Calculating IRS Forms http://www.pdftax.com/
  2. Welfare payments are not to be included on your income tax return - Cash assistance from a social government welfare agency is often referred to as a "gift" and is therefore, non-taxable nor does it have to be re-paid.
