£50,000 in 60 days mailing list business!? has anyone heard of this - sounds like a scam but I don't know how

I've been sent a letter. It says if I sent £1 to the 5 people on the list and will receive 200 names and addresses. If I send the same letter replacing one of the 5 people with my own details to the 200 names and addresses, and those 200 send it to 200 and on and on, I should get about £50,000 based on a 7.5% response rate. What do you thing!? In theory it works - If I'm daft enough to send £1 to the people on the list, there will be some people out there who are daft enough to send me £1!! But.... What happens to my name once I put it in the system? Am I going to be inundated with random mail from random companies? has anyone heard of this? Thanks for your responses lol I would never have gone for it... seems to good to be true, but am always quite intrigued by them!

  1. Remember you NEVER get money for nothing DO NOT SEND MONEY!!!!!!!!!!
  2. It's a "chain letter" and illegal in the UK. The only people who make money are the first 10 to join up, all the rest lose out.
  3. This is known as 'Pyramid selling'. There have been many various sorts of these going around over the last couple of years. NONE of them ever work. So I would even bother risking it.
  4. variations of this have been going on for years both off line and on line..... don't bother....
  5. Then again, what have you lost - a fiver? Send a letter to me :)
  6. This is just another version of a chain letter and how many of those have we all binned.
  7. if you join this then your next job should be for the village idiot
