can I get a free listing of residential street addresses for my town?
I want to do some direct mail for a very targeted area in my town for my small business.

- you can go to google map, and zoom in , and then you can see the houses
- Go to your Post office and ask about bulk mailing. That way, you can target specific Postal/zip codes, portions of codes or postal walks. They have the counts for each, the prices and information on the people that live in each area. This is non-addressed mail - "Junk mail". If you want addressed mail, you need to go to a list broker and get addresses - it's considerably more expensive.
- ~~Mostly you pay for these. However, go to www.zillow.com If you have at least one address, then it will bring you to the house. Thereafter , just roll your mouse over the other homes and their address' pop up. If you do not know the zips, go to www.usps.com and click on find zips. Then you will get that. It's more work., but completely free.~~
- If you are in the US, go to your local County office building. You should look for the Auditor's or Tax Assessor's office. Ask for the GIS department. They can provide you with both a Datasheet of address as well as the ability to show it on a map using ArcExplorer, which is a free program and very easy to use. The county should only charge you fifty cents ($0.50) for the CD that holds the data. Ask questions, the GIS department is typically in a corner and don't have a lot of public contact, they will enjoy the answering questions. If you aren't sure, email me at heyjms2005@yahoo.com with your county and state and I will retrieve it for you....no charge.
- go to an online provider who uses volassis as their list provider (formerly called advo). You'll be able to get a list for $10 or so per thousand records. Worth the money in delivery rates.
