How do I adjust the automatic closer on a commercial door. It's internal at the top. It won't quite shut.

The tag on the door reads "Jackson Exit Device Corporation, Los Angeles 23, CA Closer model 20-330". Bugs are getting into the office at night and its not closing makes it impossible to seal with weatherstripping. I can't find anything, yet, on the internet and it seems this company has gone out of business. At the top near the pivot there are three screws (5/32" allen wrench), but they don't seem to adjust, they just tighten. Thanks, Mike.

  1. maybe there is something between the door and jam that is holding it open, (loose hinge screw?, piece of debris on the sill, warped door?) There should be an allen screw on the end of the cylinder for adjustment..keep playing with it..
  2. Their web site is " jacksonexit.com ". I tried a quick search for your model #, but it doesn't appear to be in their current product catalog. On most door closers, those adjustment screws speed up or slow down the closing force/speed of the spindle(which is what the arm is attached to). They do not adjust the travel distance of the spindle. If its not closing all the way because the spindle has reached is closed position before the door has closed all the way, then the arm might have to be repositioned on the spindle.
