What are the differences between myspace, craig's list, and facebook? Are you able to make your profile private?

- Myspace and Facebook are essentially the same; they are social networking websites where you can meet friends, play games, upload photos etc. You are able to have a private profile on both these sites. Craiglists is a site where you can find items for sale, jobs, communicate with people in your town (like newspaper personals), etc.
- Craigs list is similar to ebay; you use it to sell, buy, and make a profit. Profiles can be private, but you don't put pictures of yourself on there anyway. Facebook and myspace are used to make and talk to friends. Your profile can be private. You choose how much privacy you want.
- Craigslist is certainly the most different of the three. Think of Craigslist as an online classified section where you simply post and search for items and services for sale. As for Myspace and Facebook, fundamentally they're the same thing. Both are geared towards social networking, e.g. adding friends and communicating with them through comments you leave on their profile and/or private messages. Both also allow you to create your own and browse others' photo albums. The differences between the two are both subtle and obvious. The obvious difference is their layout, although the new version of Facebook seems to feel more like the familiar Myspace layout. Both allow you to showcase one large profile photo of yourself in the upper left corner and display comments left for you down the main section of your profile. Myspace is a bit more customizable, provided you know what you're doing. There are literally thousands of free services out there that will customize your Myspace profile for you, though. Both allow you to post updates to a journal of sorts. Myspace calls it your "blog" while Facebook allows you to post "notes". A Myspace blog is a bit easier for others to follow, as anyone who has added you as a friend has quick access to your blog if they choose to subscribe to it. When you post a Facebook note, it's quite easy for it to get lost in the shuffle, as most users see literally every insignificant update their friends make on one big home page. You do have the option of "tagging" people in your Facebook notes which is basically just a way of notifying them specifically that you have written a new one. To answer your final question, yes, both Myspace and Facebook allow you to make your profile private. Only those you have added as a friend will be able to access your full profile. By default, anyone under the age of 18 using either service has a private profile. The best way to determine their differences is to just start one of each for yourself. Both are free and are used by millions of people, so finding your friends on one or the other (if not both) will be easy. Personally, I prefer Facebook, as it's cleaner, faster, and easier to look at. Again, try them both out and see which one is right for you! Happy networking!
