How should I conduct transactions on Craig's List?

I've put up my television set for sale on Craig's List and got some responses. I've stated specifically cash only. I've read that most people that sell items on Craig's List choose a public meeting place to conduct the transaction. Now, since my TV is too heavy, I've stated that they need to come to my place to pick it up. Is there any security precautions I should prepare myself for or anything I should have done differently? Aren't the buyers going to want to see that TV actually works? That would rule out a public place. And also I'm vacating my apartment so I don't mind if they come here after I've moved everything else out.

Public Comments

  1. Keep it outside (weather permitting) and meet them out front. Have them put it into their vehicle so you don't have any problems with you damaging it. Collect money before they put it into their vehicle.
  2. I don't think you could've done anything much differently, although I would've tried to get the TV into the garage or something because I wouldn't want people trecking around in my house.
  3. Your first security precaution is one you dumped out the window. If weight was your concern, make a condition of the purcahse that the buyer pays for a moving company to deliver the product. Now, just complete the purchase and hope he likes it. Otherwise, he knows where you live and will throw the TV back on your doorstep.
