What to do about craig's list scam? Help! ?

We ordered a christmas gift off of craig's list and used paypal. Our account was charged the correct amount $450 but now the seller is not responding to us. What do you do if you have been scammed on craig's list? The paypal account was through our chase credit card. Do we have any way of getting back the money? Thanks!

  1. You can call your credit card company and tell them what happened and they may give you your money back while you file a formal claim against the seller. You usually get 30 days to file the claim, and Chase will recover the $450 they credit you from the seller. Call 877-FTC-HELP (877-382-4357) to find out what action to take against the seller. Good luck.
  2. Actually Paypal has built in buyer protection. Contact them first before you contact your bank. If you contact your credit card issuer they will always ask you if you've tried to get your money back with the vendor. In this case, the vendor is Paypal. Paypal is great with buyer protection and as an escrow service for web transactions, they are very vigilant with reimbursing buyers who didn't receive their products. In general, Paypal will side with the buyer almost all the time. Contact them through e-mail or phone, you can find the contact info at www.paypal.com
  3. You should also contact pay-pal and let them know. Sometimes they can help recover funds.
  4. why would you ever deal with anything on Craigslist and not go in person to complete the deal? you should only use that site for local transactions - file a complaint with Paypal, but it;s probably too late
