How can anyone with half a brain think obama is pro gun?
Barack Obama supports handgun registration and licensing... I know that the NRA believes people should be unimpeded and unregulated on gun ownership. I disagree. I do not object to the lawful use and ownership of firearms, but I do think it is entirely it appropriate for the state to monitor it. Too many of these guns end up in the hands of criminals even though they were originally purchased by people who did not have a felony. I'll continue to be in favor of handgun law registration requirements and licensing requirements for training. [Chicago Defender, 7/5/01] --- http://factcheck.barackobama.com/factcheck2/2007/12/ and more... The package closes the Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card loopholes which resulted in the shooting out in Melrose Park. We're eliminating 17 specific assault weapons. There is no reason why anybody should need an assault weapon to protect themselves or their family,' Obama said. 'We're limiting handgun sales to one a month. We're calling for handgun registration. It's very hard right now to track whether or not a felon has turned in his weapons or if he has a FOID card because we don't know how many weapons he has purchased. [Chicago Defender, 2/20/01] --- http://factcheck.barackobama.com/factcheck2/2007/12/ Opposes civilian concealed carry I am consistently on record and will continue to be on record as opposing concealed carry. --- Mendell, David, "From Promise to Power" (2007), p. 251. I am not in favor of concealed weapons. I think that creates a potential atmosphere where more innocent people could (get shot during) altercations. --- Pittsburg Tribune-Review (April 2, 2008). [Obama] backed federal legislation that would ban citizens from carrying weapons, except for law enforcement. He cited Texas as an example of a place where a law allowing people to carry weapons has "malfunctioned" because hundreds of people granted licenses had prior convictions. "National legislation will prevent other states' flawed concealed-weapons laws from threatening the safety of Illinois residents," Obama said. --- http://www.icadp.org/page236.html (Citing David Mendel, Chicago Tribune, February 20, 2004) Opposes possession of most semi-automatic rifles Obama has stated the government needs to permanently reinstate an "assault weapons" ban. (Obama Calls for Permanent Assault Weapons Ban to Combat Inner-City Violence, Associated Press [via Fox News] [July 15, 2007] and http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/issues/issues.gun.html) (McCain voted against the 1994 crime bill that contained an "assault weapons" ban [see the latter link].) Voted for a federal ban on most military surplus ammo Voted in 2005 to classify all Full Metal Jacket ammo in the following calibers as armor-piercing (since they are capable both of being fired from a handgun and of penetrating Kevlar bullet-resistant vests): 223 Remington 308 Winchester Soviet 7.62x39 Source: http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=109&session=1&vote=00217 Opposes protecting firearms manufacturers from lawsuits due to the misuse of their products. In July, 2005 Obama voted against S. 397 that passed by a wide margin (65-31) and became law in October, 2005. This act prohibits "civil liability actions from being brought or continued against manufacturers, distributors, dealers, or importers of firearms or ammunition for damages, injunctive or other relief resulting from the misuse of their products by others." Probably supports local handgun bans The campaign of Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama said that he "believes that we can recognize and respect the rights of law-abiding gun owners and the right of local communities to enact common sense laws to combat violence and save lives. Obama believes the D.C. handgun law is constitutional." --- http://www.sportsmenforobama.org/content/view/34/ (Citing James Oliphant and Michael J. Higgins, "Court To Hear Gun Case," Chicago Tribune, 11/20/07). (See http://www.scotuswiki.com/index.php?title=DC_v._Heller for background on the case of District of Columbia v. Heller, before the Supreme Court, that will decide the constitutionality of a civilian handgun ban in Washington, D.C.) Opposed the nomination of Supreme Court justices John G. Roberts Jr. and Samuel A. Alito Jr. Recent Supreme Court justices John G. Roberts Jr. and Samuel A. Alito Jr. were instrumental to a favorable Second Amendment ruling in the Heller case mentioned above. Obama voted against the nomination of Roberts and Alito. (McCain voted for the nomination of both justices.) (Roberts' roll call vote, Alito's roll call vote) http://www.guncite.com/gun_control_obama.html The above quotes are all OBAMAS own words! How can he be pro gun??? STOP drinking the socialist koolaid!

- Well, maybe it's because the logical half of their brain is missing. The better question is why do some hunters think that he will leave hunting guns alone? Kalifornia is already well on the way to banning rifles that hold more than three cartridges, and those that are semi auto. Barry will be more than happy to push hunters back to rocks, as quickly as he can. After all, a hunting rifle is in effect a sniper gun, intended to kill at a distance.
- It is hard to refuse those facts. He may not want to physically confiscate our handguns and other firearms??, but he will definitely make things difficult for legal, responsible, and law abiding gun owners. He must have missed that day in Constitution class in law school when the professor talked about the 2nd. **What he says really does not stick out as much as how he votes. His voting is what backs him up as being labeled a gun grabber.** This is what he told a news reporter in DC. ABCs local DC anchor Leon Harris asked Obama, "One other issue that's of great importance here in the District as well is gun control. You said in Idaho recently... 'I have no intention of taking away folks' guns,' but you support the DC handgun ban." Obama's simple response: "Right." When Harris said, "And you've said that it's constitutional," Obama is clearly seen on tape nodding his head yes. Lott, John R. Jr. (Oct. 2008), America's 1st Freedom, Obama's Shifting Positions Leave Questions Unanswered On Guns page 64, 1p
- here is why, the Obama campaign is threatening lawsuits against news stations that run the NRA add, so it is having a hard time getting the word out. The reason is that Factcheck.org, which is democratically funded but tries to bill itself off as neutal has rated the NRA add somethink like "3 out of 4 pinochios" They try and do this by ignoring the 10 times Obama has voted for assinine gun laws and hinges on his most recent votes and statements, which are of course spin. When Obama says "a complete ban on handguns is not politically practicable" Factcheck attempts to claim that is a pro-2nd statement, when I read it as 'If I believed it had a chance, I'd try to, but as it doesn't I won't even try, so I'll just pile on restrictions" Also, his support of Teddy Kennedy's horrendously written bill, where Ted states "My amendment will not apply to ammunition that is now routinely used in hunting rifles or other centerfire rifles. " but then Teddy goes on a rant about how some officers were killed by the deadly and dangerous "thirty-thirty" deer rifle using standard deer hunting ammo. I love this part, straight from their website "The NRA bases this overheated claim on a vote Obama cast on March 24, 2004, in the Illinois state Senate. He was one of 20 who opposed SB 2165. That bill, which passed 38 - 20 and became law, did not make it a crime to use firearms for self-defense, however." Notice the Logic twist. The law did NOT make it a a crime to use firearms for self defense, but Obama voted AGAINST it, so what the law did would only be relevant if he voted FOR it. THE TRUTH IS BEING SUPRESSED WITH THE TREAT OF BANK DRAINING FRIVOLOUS LAWSUITS JUST LIKE THE TYPE AIMED AT RUNNING GUN MANUFACTURERS BANKRUPT OBAMA WILL PREVENT YOU FROM BUYING AMMO, AND HE WILL PREVENT OTHERS FROM SELLING YOU GUNS BUT ACCORDING TO HIM THAT IS OKAY AS IT DOESN'T PREVENT YOU FROM BUYING GUNS.
- Well Boker most folks do not research their candidate. They go by word of mouth and the media, both of which are bias. It baffles me why so many Americans don’t research a person who may lead our nation. That same person will spend a great deal of time on the net researching; fashion, cars, sports of firearm data, etc but just will not spend a few hours on a candidate. Despite the anti-gun (hey if he’s against some that’s anti-gun) I think hes also detached from rural Americans. Here is a read about his spouse opinion of guns that shows how he skirts the issue; http://www.swamppolitics.com/news/politics/blog/2007/11/obama_my_wife_sees_need_for_ru.html His idea is yes we can hunt and own guns, but not all the guns we have used in the past, like semi-auto shotguns and rifles because to his twisting of the second amendment some how banning certain guns are ok. He thinks semi-auto guns are assault weapons and he also thinks only rural areas should be able to have firearms. And no I have no proof of that, however his constant side stepping the gun issue shows he’s hiding something and his extreme lack of knowledge of firearms combined with his out spoken hatred of “assault weapons” shows his true colors. Now McCain fought in combat and is familiar with firearms, although he doesn’t hunt his running mate Sarah Palin has quite a bit. Both are pro gun. So the Democrats have two that are anti-gun, Biden http://www.ontheissues.org/domestic/Joe_Biden_Gun_Control.htm and Obama dont want to panic the gun owners at this time. But anyone that can read can see their agenda, some just choose not to.
- Whats really sad is when NObama polls bad in rural areas populated by whites and then the media acts as if its because we are racist. Simple logic says that people who live in rural areas wont vote for anyone who wishes to infringe upon our rights to hunt/defend ourselves. Were I am from (rural Arkansas) it can take police over an hour to respond to the call. We depend on ourselves for defense against crime and guess what.. there is FAR less crime here than in areas were the police are always present. In 28 years on this land not a single possession of mine has been stolen.. mainly because any criminal knows that everyone here is armed and well schooled on how to use our weapons. And thats the real reason people like me wont vote for Obama. It has nothing to do with race at all. I would vote for the man if he was raised up with the same types of values as myself regardless of color.
- Because he is pro gun and believes in the 2nd Amendment, and has repeatedly said so most recently at a campaign rally in West Virginia.* These vicious lies are intended to make people believe that he is a threat to gun ownership, and the 2nd Amendment in order to cause people to not vote for him.* Typical example of Dirty politics.* The N.R.A. has been weak, on protecting, preserving, and enforcing our 2nd Amendment Rights according to the way our Founding Fathers meant it and wrote it.* All States except for Alaska and Vermont violate, subvert, compromise, deny, and ignore the 2nd Amendment along with the Federal, State, County, and Local Governments.* If anything people should be questioning the credibility of the N.R.A.*... Could it just be all about keeping the flow of $$$ coming into the N.R.A.?*...Because they sure have not lived up to their beliefs, promises, and goals regarding protecting and living up to the 2nd Amendment that our Forefathers wrote for us.*...
- he is for more gun control , and that in my opinion is anti-gun !! we have enough gun control laws on the books already ... why not just make sure they get enforced !! criminals will always be able to get a gun no matter how legal / illegal they are to own. these laws only punish those of us that want to own / collect weapons and have a clean background !! sorry , but in november i am voting McCain / Palin 2008. i am and always will be pro-gun , pro-life , and pro-capital punishment.
- Its because they are in denial. Obama does support the 2nd, its just that he supports HIS interpretation of it. And from his votes it seems he has a very screwed up interpretation of the 2nd amendment. I don’t like politicians at all; they are liars, crooks and love to play word games. To me they are slime, the dregs of society, scum of the earth! So for me to vote for McCain says a lot. Because I have my reservations about him as well. But McCain is not out to ban our guns. Obama want’s gun control that many of the liberal democrats are just eager to be made law. We can expect new handgun restrictions, semi-auto bans, more paper work, more permits, more banned firearms and more laws on where you can own or carry one. I mean we have a Democrat congress just chomping at the bit for a democrat president to rubber stamp their anti-gun laws. And lets look at the democrats past voting record, and folks this is from the amendment II democrats web site; http://www.a2dems.net/campaign2006/senatevote109.htm You will note how many of them voted for gun control laws, so action er a..votes speek louder than words! But we also need to consider that McCain voted to end gun shows and did indeed vote in favor of a few gun control laws. http://www.buckeyefirearms.org/node/5746 So folks I would be prepared for bad news for gun owners no matter who gets elected, but I would say McCain is a far better shot than Obama.
