What Online Universities are Top-Notch?

I am a junior at a South Carolina university. Recently, I have had some serious medical problems that are preventing me from attending class. Reluctantly, I need to move back home to Ohio and improve my health after this semester. Even though I don't want to, I am thinking that an online university would be the best bet in order for me to finish my degree and to also not have to worry about missing class due to my medical condition. Does anyone recommend an online university? I am pursuing Business Management and will have 70 credit hours completed after this semester. I really want to find a online school that will look good on my resume and will also give me a good education. Also, do job employers frown on those that take online classes? My parents are a little nervous for me to take them because they believe an employer is looking for class interaction rather than just learning from the computer. Please give me any advice...thanks! My GPA is 3.6 and I just had an internship with Aflac and currently work at my college in Judicial Affairs. I know that UMass has an online college and I know that one of the responses said that employers don't like them as much but what happens if they come from a highly-accredited school?

  1. It's hard to give you an answer without knowing your GPA or work experience. If your GPA is in the 3.8 range try Carnegie Mellon University. If it's in the 3.6 range try Duke Fuqua School of Business. If it's in the 3.3 range try the University of Florida. If you don't have any managerial work experience and your GPA is in the 3.1-3.2 range try the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, Auburn, Oklahoma State or East Carolina. Best of luck!
  2. No online university is top notch. Online universities especially for business management are not highly regarded and sometimes not even accredited. Employers are wary of online degrees and degrees for for-profit schools. No reputable school is a for-profit. You'd be better of at a highly regarded public or private university.
  3. Stick to the ones that are established public or private universities that have an online program. Here is one from the University of Maryland, which is an actual top ranked state college. I think Penn State has some, too. There are others, you just need to look. http://www.umuc.edu/prog/ugp/mjr_chart_online.shtml Avoid the ones like University of Phoenix or other for profit degree mills. You can pick them out because they promise four year degrees in like 18 months, advertise a lot, cost a buttload, and just give you that cheap feeling they aren't respected out in the real world.
  4. Grand Canyon University has the Ken Blanchard College of Business. They are also accredited by the NCAHLC, If you don't know who Ken is I suggest you google him. You will find he is a world renowned business professional and has written many business books. Employers do not frown upon online degrees. There is nothing different about online.
