how do I get my web page to appear in search engine listings?

When someone types the name of our club into a search window the web page we have does not appear. How can I get our web page listed? Is this only available if we purchase a keyword or two or can it be done for free?

2. Yes you can apply to have your site listed for free. Each search engine has different protocols, so just search for "submit my website" in the search box to find their submission form. Just because your site is submitted doesn't necc. mean it will show up where everyone can see it. Most search engines return search results based on the website's popularity with people who have been searching for the same thing. Therefore until your club gains popularity, it may not show up on the first few page's worth of search results.
3. Firstly you should make a keyword analysis and after that you should optimize your site for that particular keyword which is known as onpage optimization. To make externel linkings, you have to post your site to directories and take backlinkings from other websites. The second option is to hire a search engine optimizer or consult some good seo company for that.
