What do all the GB's GM's and what not mean? Refering to the memory space and hard drive?
Can someone sort this mess out? -80GB Serial ATA hard drive (5400 rpm) -ATI RADEON XPRESS 200M graphics with 128MB dynamically allocated shared video memory; S-video out -Cache Memory 1MB on die Level 2 -System Memory (RAM) 512MB it's from the best buy website: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8297238&type=product&productCategoryId=pcmcat103700050018&id=1172881524655 what numbers should i be looking for in a good lap top? are these numbers equivalent mathematically to other numbers and units? not a big math/unit person, please help! ADD ON: so when does the 512 mb or whatever extend to a bigger number? as in... would 1 gb be considered bigger?

- In simplest terms : The bigger the numbers ..better the computer 80 Gigabyte is your hard disk space .. this is where you store your pictures ..videos ..files etc. 128 Megabyte Video RAM (Random Access Memory) needed for playing high definition video games etc 512 Megabyte is your Main System Memory ....this controls how fast your computer works also your Cache is 1 MB that also controls the speed to a great extent
- 80 GB=Gigabytes Hard disk this is where you put your stuff 128 MG = megabytes allocated shared video this is memory that the video card uses cache memory 1 mg this is memory that the processor uses to do thing faster 512 MBs RAM this is the memory that programs uses to run properly so bigger is better with these numbers this is the order in size from small to big bytes, kilobytes, megabytes, gigabytes, terabytes 1024 megabytes make one gigabyte so a GB is bigger than a MB
- that's a fairly good price for the laptop, if you're in the US you may find a better deal watching the flyers in the Sunday paper. Oftentimes they have ones with rebates so you'd have to pay like $750 (for example) up front and send in the rebate stuff (exactly how they say to!!) to get like a $200 rebate. (I paid about $500 a couple weeks ago for an Acer which is a little better than that one.) In that price range they're all going to be about the same, but one thing you do want to look for is one with 1GB of RAM to run Windows Vista (that one has 512MB which is half that). Try to find one with Vista Home Premium instead of Basic. My notebook has a 2.0 GHz processor (a little faster than that one) and a 120GB hard drive. Now, hard drive size may actually be the least important for you, unless you make a habit of storing massive video files or thousands of photos on your pc. With a DVD burner (which that and most others have these days) you can easily backup files to a DVD to keep the hard drive space freed up. good luck in your shopping! check Circut City, Office Depot, and others like that for deals. Oh, I suggest that you don't go with an Acer if you find one. Their support is weak. _
