how do i create drop down lists on excel (using data from another page/tab)?

i know how to create a drop down list: Data -> Validations -> Allow:List -> data for list my problem is that i don't want the data to be on the same page (tab). so i made lists on the second excel page (tab). and i want that listed data to appear on a the first excel page (tab). however, i'm not quite sure how to do this as it doesn't like it when i enter in the list name, the page (tab) name, or the cells with the list info. can anyone help me? i'm using Excel 2003 sp2 from the standard office edition

  1. what you need to do first is create a "name" (a range of cells containing the data you want to use in the drop down selection). Here is how to do so: go to the tab that contains the data you want to "name" highlight only the cells you want to appear in the drop-down list go up to the toolbar and find the name box located directly below the font name box. click in the name box and input a name for the list. make sure it is a one-word name and make sure that you note the name you gave it. after you enter the name hit the <enter> key. now go to the other tab where you want to put the drop-down list. follow the steps you listed in your question. in that box you need to list the source, do so this way: =nameigaveit for example if you named the list data you would enter: =data good luck. email me if you need more help peace and love.
  2. You need to create NAME go to Insert > Name > Define Set a name for that NAME type the addres in referes to (Absolute ref only) with the sheet name Add Close Now, in Validation, change the source to =YourName check my other answer here http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070430171448AApfySi Enjoy my profile, I am the VBAXLMan
