Does anyone know how to get taken off the telemarketors call list freely?

I don't know my rights as a consumer who is on almost every telemarketers list it seems. I get calls daily, even on Sundays, mail offers with checks enclosed, catalogs and even magazines I didn't ask for. I have tried sending the magazines back and they refuse to take them back. Im so tired of being harassed. Please help. I found one sight that wants a $9.00 donation in addition to $6.00 every month, it seems to me that we should be able to do this for free. Thanks for the help I really need it.

  1. www.donotcall.gov for telemarketing www.dma.org for junk mail lists 1-888-5-OPTOUT for prescreened credit offers
  2. there is a national do not call list which you can have your name and # put on that will put an end to the phone calls
  3. If you don't want phone calls, just sign up for the Federal Do Not Call list. It's FREE and protects you under federal law. The companies are fined $10k if they call someone on the list, so they make sure to stay away. As far as junk mail, that's hard to stop. Just google "federal do not call list".
  4. The national do not call list www.donotcall.gov. It is good for 5 years, after that you just register again. If you still get calls ask the name of the company then inform them you are on the do not call list. Also report them cause then they get fined!!! These days more and more companies are calling without checking first cause they are desperate and its not fair to us.
  5. You have the right not to be harrassed by telemarketers. When they call, politely ask to be removed off of their calling list. By law, they are required to do so. If not, ask for their contact/company information and they can be reported to the government (and get in tons of trouble!!). As for magazines and stuff.... nobody should be charging you for anything you didnt ask to recieve. Since most often this stuff is payed for directly out of your checking account, look at your monthly statement. Sometimes there is a number to call under the transaction so you can stop this. If not, make an appointment with your bank to go over these transactions and have them removed and disabled immediatly. On everything else, look for the fine print on how to stop recieving things. And consider getting a cell phone. Telemarketers generally dont call cell phones.
