What does it mean when one of my buddy list goes online and sends me spams?

Is it because that i have spam or something on my system or because that guy (one of my buddy list) has something malfunctioning on his system or what? I asked him and he told me he was asleep at the time his ID went online!

1. It means that he picked up a virus and his computer is infected. Until he gets his computer checked and cleaned, the virus will continue to send out spam from his mail service to the contacts of his address book. If one of those people clicks on it they, too can be infected or subject to spam. Do him a flavor and tell him to have his computer checked out.
