Why do some people in the Hunting section feel compelled to list a resume as a source for their answer?
Just curious why other categories aren't plagued by this ego driven phenomena. Most of the hunters I associate myself with are more than willing to help others without having to try and impress them with claims of experience and years afield. If you are knowledgeable it will come through in the way you answer. Am I the only one that feels this way?

- I think it is just to verify that they know from personal experience. Anybody can copy and paste some info, besides, if youv'e accomplished some nice things, then I see no problem with just adding it at the bottom. Some of these guys have accomplished some neat things, plus it's nice when a gun store owner tells you something like whats selling good, or what firearm has the least amount of returns due to malfunctions.
- In a face to face scenerio, one is able to tell the bs'rs from the real deal, here we have no way of knowing who really knows what they're talking about, and who is a master of wikipedia. The resume as you call it is the pedigree of the user, hopefully distinguishing them from the wikipedia masters. I for one don't use my "resume", it would take too long to type it all out.
- Experience matters and is always worth mentioning.* Give credit where credit is due.* I am sure they are not doing it just to brag, they are doing it to demonstrate that they have the experience and are more than qualified to respond with an answer to that question.* It hasn't a thing to do with Ego.*
- Because there are a lot of tards who answer your questions poorly on this section and this is the best to tell if you are getting reliable info. Especially, since in this section, you are often asking questions about firearms, wouldn't you agree that is it best to get competent information? Your's or someone else's safety may depend on you getting the right answer to your question. I am very grateful to the several answerer's on this section who you are referring to and I make it a point to look at all the questions and answers about shooting on this section daily as I just recently got into the hobby myself. It's a great way to get a free education.
- I am one of those "plagued" "ego driven phenomena" individuals you so rudely and crudely described. I make no apologies for listing my qualifications and life experiences that took years and thousands of dollars in tuition and specialized training to achieve. If you suffer petty jealousies over it go back to those "other" categories you mentioned. You are a minority here and I assure you that you won't be missed...... *Isn't it IRONIC that the one's that have the biggest mouths, scream "FOUL" the loudest, and are the most disruptive, are the same ones that contribute the least.........
- Yeah, pretty much. I feel better seeing the persons qualifications when they advise me on what to do with a hand-held explosion device commonly called a gun. PS, I didn't know people liked not knowing if it is just some goober telling them something he made up as he was typing, why else would i have so many thumbs down?
- Cuz a lot of people are idiots. One person said firing magazines in pistols that the police use makes the bullet.most dumb answers aren't THAT obvious though.I'm glad we got LAPD and NRA and SWAT and all these other people from prestigous acronyms.Their answers are worth far more than the people who's firearms knowledge is based solely on counter strike.
- I have no idea what you are talking about.
- i prefer that they list how qualified they r to answer my question. it lets me know its not some random retard answering me...
- I feel you brother. Some folks just can't talk enough about themselves. HEHEHE see what I mean? Truth hurts !!!!!
- To make the un-informed feel as though the answer giving has to be right. I have years of experience in hunting and shooting but I still make mistakes. I have mis-read ?'s on here therefore giving a bad answer. Askers should always reference an answer reguardless of answerers experience. Edit: How does one know the list of creditials are ligit?
- Stats, my man, Stats!!!! I wanna see stats
- You mean JD? If a guy's got the credentials, and they are legit, I have no issue with him including them with his answer. It's help to the unknowing Asker to sort through the junk answers we so often find. Chill Out my man, it's the Christmas Season!
- If you've got qualifications, list 'em. If you don't, get off the computer and go get you some.
- Well. Considering firearms. I think i would rather take the answer from someone who actually knows something rather than someone talking out there buttox. Credentials are a plus when it comes to firearms. You can't to be safe. Spanky
- I see no problem with listing facts of qualifications!
- Having read all of the posts above, one obvious fact emerges that appears to have been overlooked, any "tard" can put a list of non-existant qualifications and achievements after his name on this board, so how does it help anyone? Also I must agree with the question poster when he says; " If you are knowledgeable it will come through in the way you answer". Silas V above sums it up I think!
- Jealous are we? I personally like seeing the credentials someone may have. As opposed to other sections (R+S), many questions in this category are not merely opinions and I would like to know who is more qualified when I'm using a suggestion from someone about firearms or weapons.
- Yeah, after 30 years on a police force, retired military or running a firearms business for a while...Those are things that provide a bit of pride by the answerer, and should provide a bit of respect from folks. They also, as pointed out, give the asker a little bit more confidence in the answers. As far as affiliations, like the NRA, those are more of a belief related creditials as most NRA and other firearms and hunting affiliation members hold a constitutionally given personel rights view. A lot of good intending folks will provide an answer that is based on years of mis-information or wives tails, others are providing answers that are visiously wrong and dangerous because they hate inanimate objects. Seeing the list of experience or creditials can be helpful. Now, if however one of your friend spouts off something like that while helping you work on your gun or car....Back away veerryy ssslllloooowwwlllly...and Run...
- Personally, I want to know if the educated answer I am looking for is coming from a subject matter expert or some moron that should have kept his mouth shut because he hasn't got 2 brain cells to rub together and make a spark. Note to JD..I appreciate your wisdom and experience.
- You young so I will enlighten you. If somebody has plucked chickens for 50 years it is fair to assume that they know something about chicken plucking. I have done income tax returns for 37 years and can generally provide an intelligent answer for any tax question posed me. I was also in the service and have been fondling and oohing over old military rifles since 1958 (almost a half century) so I have acquired a fair block of intel about old military rifles. In eastern civilizations older people are listened to and the information they dispense is golden. In our society the young bubbleheads seem to only listen to their marbles and brains roll around in their pumpkin skulls; any wonder many of us say that our civilization is going to hell in a handbasket?
- a good question.....especially when 99% of it is bullsh*t and lies. If the answer doesn't stand on its own merits ie being a *correct* answer, you can dress it up in all the bullsh*t claims you want and it's still nothing but bullsh*t. there are more than a few folks on here that would do good in learning that.
- Some people will listen to the voice of experience, and some people just have to pee on the electric fence and see for themselves. If you're in the latter group, qualifications of the answerers don't matter. If you're in the former group, it's nice to know the answer has some backing. Us old farts have accumulated some experience through the years, and we can recognize when we're making a mistake again. Pointing out our experience isn't bragging, it's a notification that we really have something to say.
- I agree with everything said above! i've gotten alot of info on here and its nice to know where info came from, you know, not a BS'er. At first I thought why would I ask gun questions on Yahoo??? Well it helped. On other sites you have to wait many hours/days to get approved for a forum. Screw that. No time. Yahoo gave me my first answer in 18 minutes. ( JD ).
