Is reading the books from the college board book list good for college?

I am a junior in high school and my mom keeps telling me to read books from the college board list of english literature. I know for sure i am not going to be a english major, so is reading all that english literature necessary?

1. Um I didn't but I guess...the best thing I would suggest is to go on ratemyprofessor.com before you pick your classes.
