Why does my family think "work from home" means I play online all day?

I work from home as a virtual assistant. I am certified, licensed & bring in enough money to cover half the bills. I also pet sit every day which brings in a few hundred dollars a month. On top of this I run my own mobile car wash & handle all the administration for that. I also take night classes because I'm trying to get my business administration degree. Oh yeah and I completely take care of the house. My entire family doesn't take what I do seriously. They accuse me of playing online all day, not having a "real" job & making my husband work to pay my bills when its nothing like that. Im trying to relocate to be closer to them & the other day my mother says well you know if you relocate you'll have to get a real job you can't just sit at home playing online all day. I am really offended & sick of explaining myself. They just write off what I do as playing when I work harder than I ever did at a 9-5 job. I could be making millions & they still wouldn't validate it. Why do they think that because I work from home that I don't do anything?

1. Sounds like they are not up with the times and don't realize that you can make a living now days working from home because of computers and whats available to us now through them. They also are probably a little jealous that you can work from home and they can't.
2. Don't worry about it LeeLee. Don't try to make them understand. You know that you are working hard and if your husband understands that's enough. If you are with a legitimate company and are building your income time will come that it will open their eyes without you trying to open them for them. If the time you spend online isn't paying of for you it might be good to look out for something different but if it does pay of, let them talk all they want. Maybe if they read some testimonials of people who are now living in their dream house, have their debts, payed of and are sending their children to private school and have realized their dreams working online it will make them understand that real income can be made by working online.
