What is your opinion on last night's brawl?
Though I'm a Yankee fan, Jorge was out of line, but so war Carlson. I don't believe his pitch behind him was intentional, if you watch it again and see his hand, it seems like he over-yanked it and it wound up behind him. (Unless that's how he normally pitches) But a pitcher should be BACKING up home plate, Carlson was just standing almost on top of home, his glove sticking out, and Jorge had no business brushing him.. but either way, Carlson had no business just walking TOWARDS Jorge and antagonizing him. He should've got his mouth out, and walked back to the pitcher's mound. I was at the game when it happened, so it was kinda interesting at the time. I don't think Melancon's pitch was intentional either, if it was, it'd be a four-seamer, not a two seamer. Your thoughts? dhaidhuit - The Yankees aren't sending anything because they hit home runs, the Yankees aren't Vicente Padilla who hits guys for doing their job (killing his mistakes). Mitre's had terrible control in just about every game minus that gem against the White Sox. Melancon has 4 hit batters in 16 innings or something, he has a real lack of control and is working with that. So I don't think any of that was intentional. <3333333333333 - I say that because I think his extreme wrist snapping seemed odd, unless that's how he pitches. I guess it WAS intentional, but on first thought, from the grandstand near the foul pole, how was I supposed to know?

- My thoughts went back to Bill Lee, who wrecked his shoulder in a fight like that. What if Jeter had got his hand stepped on, and missed the rest of the season? Another thought was of Don Zimmer's emphatic win over Pedro Martinez a few years ago. A little more thinking would have been in order.
- This was the wrong time for the Yanks to be getting involved in brawls especially with Playoff time being so close.
- Not one but TWO Jays batters being dotted as some sort of message that the Yanks weren't happy that Toronto was swinging for the fences , simply cannot be tolerated or condoned by Carlson. It's LONG been understood in the game of baseball that retaliation in the form of payback HAS to happen in order for the pitcher to project the sense that he's "standing up for his teammates." Posada is certainly veteran enough and should easily understand this. Couple that with the fact that he didn't even get hit by Carlson's pitch and that when he really had a chance to be a man about it, he didn't go out to the mound. Instead he throws a little flipper elbow at the man as though he was going to get away with *that* and feel like he got the best of him. Let's call it like the home plate umpire who saw it best, it was a cheap shot and truly unsportmanlike. The idea that he didn't want to talk about it after the game is as much about the idea of putting it all behind them as the fact that he doesn't have a good enough reason to explain why he behaved as badly as he did.
- I'm pissed, I totally missed it.... and I can't find a clip of it anywhere, got any links? I would agree with the above, now is not the time to be fighting especially when the Yankees are so close to getting that WS title back to their name
- wow...for you to think that wasn't intentional just doesn't make any sense. i was watching the game on YES, and Al leiter (a former pitcher) said that yeah it was intentional, but to only protect his players. And i don't think its wrong. i would expect a yankees pitcher to do the same thing. Carlson should have been behind the plate like you said, not next to the yankees dugout. It seems that he wanted to say something to posada. Yeah, posada should have done nothing, but carlson should never have been there. I don't think melancon's pitch was on purpose. he did it a lot of other times. he's just over throwing it.. wow, i love baseball fights
- that fight was completely stupid especially for the yankees. If you are pretty much running away with the division you don't need to be getting into fights before the playoffs and getting people injured. Not a smart move by posada
- Are u kidding?? Unintentional???? Carlson knew exactly what he was doing when he threw behind posasa.Even al leiter said pitchers dont miss the strike zone that far out it was definitely intentional. And if u were posada wouldnt u get pissed if a 85 mph fastball was thrown at u?????? Posada had every right to be pissed off.I agree that the fighting was outta line but carlson started it by being near the yankee dugout instead of behind home plate where pitchers are taught to be.It seemed as if he was waiting for posada to score to say something to him.
- Carlson didn't do anything wrong. Posada should of really got it. But unfortunately he didn't. What was Posada saying wwhen the pitch almost hit him but didn't say don't get all worked up. Anyway Hill got hit and Edwin did so. I didn't think it wasn't intentional but u guys are always hitting are best players. That just isn't right. It's not only the Yankees it's the Red Sox too.
- My opinion is that if this fight, which I have not watched, had not involved the Yankees, it would already be relegated to history's dustbin of curiosities and whatnots and it would no longer be an active topic of discussion. But some certain fan blocs simply cannot let go of anything.
- If you're going to hit 2 of the other's teams batters, including one of their best hitters, then you have to know that they're going to protect their players and hit a player back. I think the Yankee pitcher who hit Aaron Hill was the one who drilled Dustin Pedroia last time we were in New York.. even then he claimed it was by accident, but before hitting him he threw a ball in the exact same place, but for that one Pedroia managed to jump out of the way in time. I highly doubt that it hadn't been on purpose. The way Carlson threw it, all the way behind Posada, it was clear he was trying to hit him, but it wasn't such a surprise. What Posada did - elbowing him out of the way.. I think that was just uncalled for. I may be biased since I don't like the Yankees but I think he was more at-fault. However, Carlson was in the way in front of home plate for some reason, plus he still fought after Posada was immediately ejected, so both players are at fault, and I think they both deserve a suspension.
- the brawl was uncalled for. this is totally unprofessional and not meant to be used in baseball.
