  1. Many web sites use an HTML command called MAILTO:. It is an easy way to handle email since they do not have to design forms and handle the mail themselves. The command transfers to the "default" email program which is normally Outlook Express or Windows Mail on a PC. You have 3 options. 1. Set up an email account in Outlook Express or Windows Mail. 2. Somehow alter the default to go to Yahoo mail on the web. 3. Just copy the address and create an email manually. ----- SET UP ACCOUNT In order to use a separate email program, such as Outlook, Outlook Express, Windows Mail, or Thunderbird, with Yahoo Mail you need POP3. It is also needed when using any program or right clicking on a file to directly send email. It is free in the UK, AU, and NZ but in the US you must pay for Yahoo Mail Plus. It is also required when you try to transfer the mail using smtp or pop3 to another online email. When you do you can set the servers as follows: Incoming (pop3) US - plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com SSL 995 UK - pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk SSL 995 AU and NZ - pop.mail.yahoo.com.au SSL 995 Outgoing (smtp) US - plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com 465 TLS UK - smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk SSL 465 TLS AU and NZ - smtp.mail.yahoo.com.au SSL 465 TLS NOTE: The same servers are used for ymail and rocketmail. Use the entire email address as the Yahoo ID. You can also look at the program Ypops. I have no recommendation for or against. ----- CHANGE DEFAULT Web sites use the default email program. That is normally Outlook Express or Windows Mail. You can change it to the Yahoo mail web site. ₪ For Firefox 3 (There is no option for FF 2.)... Go to Yahoo Mail and select "options". Then select "Set Y! Mail as default webmail". This will only work for mailto links within Firefox. I know of no way to access it from outside of Firefox. It can also be done by going to tools > options > applications. Scroll down to MAILTO and select Yahoo Mail from the dropdown menu. ₪ For Internet Explorer and XP (Yahoo Mail can not be set as a default using IE and Vista.)... You must first download Yahoo! Toolbar from http://toolbar.yahoo.com and install it. Once that is done then go to the "start" menu and the "internet options" control panel. Click the “Programs” tab along the top. Click the “E-mail” pull-down menu, and select Yahoo! Mail. Click OK. ₪ ɦəlʞɹɐq ₪
