Has anyone used Angie's list for painters?

I got some great ideas from some peeps on here about painting my dresser at home BUT I need to get the OK first I guess from my landlord and I live in a 1bdrm apt so not sure if Ill end up having room to do it here myself Has anyone used angies list to look for painter references? And if I end up having to ask a friend or a neighbor to paint my dresser how much would be good to offer them for the job? or how much would a good guesstimate be for a furniture painter?

  1. You don't need a lot of space to paint a piece of furniture -- it will cost more than the thing is worth to pay someone to do it. If the dresser doesn't belong to the landlord why would you need his permission? Just pull the dresser into the middle of your room with a sheet of plastic or an old shower curtain with newspaper on top under it. Take out the drawers and set them on plastic and paper too. Get low-VOC paint from a hardware or paint store (that type has no noxious fumes to smell up the house), sand the wood lightly, wipe it down with a tack rag to remove the dust (the paint store will sell you tack rags) and then carefully paint all the exterior surfaces (just the fronts of the drawers.) Two light coats is better than one thick one that might drip. If you really don't think you can do it yourself, look in the yellow pages or on-line for a furniture restoring or reupholstering shop and call them for a quote. You would have to bring it to them or have them pick it up.
