"David Letterman" top 10 list of why a ribosome is the most important organelle in a cell?

this is not homework or anything....im just curious :) for years, scientists argue that ribosomes are important/ are not important. whats your take on this? ps-no rude answers. if you see someone has already answered the same thing you were gonna say, dont just repeat their answer. ps 2- dont just say they make protein. DUHHH ; ] graciasssssssssss!

  1. I've never heard scientists argue that ribosomes are not important, since they are required for life and all.
  2. Ribosomes carry out critical functions common to all domains of life so are among the most conserved coding sequences. Life would not be possible on the cellular level without ribosomes, at least among modern species. Nitpicking- I would argue that an organelle is a membrane-enclosed compartment in a cell so that a ribosome does not fit that definition. I prefer to refer to ribosomes as macromolecular assemblies. These assemblies include the flagella and the cytoskeleton that way.
