My Father was in a funeral procession and went through a red light.?

There was no notice posted that there would be a camera issueing tickets by mail. I went to dmv, and DCPD and they finally referred me to the court house. The court house does not have a rate sheet w/ code violations listed. I strongly feel that the public has the right to know in advanced what these fines are going to run before they get a notice in the mail!

  1. did the car have a funeral sticker in the windshield? if so and you get a ticket contest it and the charge will be dropped. cars in all directions must yield to funeral processions that includes redlights.
  2. A funeral procession has the right of way. Some times they have police escorts and some times they do not.*
  3. Check the laws of your state. In my state a funeral procession can violate certain laws - in order to keep pace with each other. Stop signs, red lights, etc. Yahoo Search = "funeral possession laws" your state. He would at least have a good defense.
  4. In most states, the fact he was in a funeral procession should be enough to dismiss the ticket. Cars in a funeral procession are required to be marked in some way, but I am not sure the marking would be visible to the red light camera. I recommend contacting the funeral company and the court and asking what you can do about showing the car was part of a funeral procession at the time.
