Real estate listing website?

My mom used to work in real estate and had access to this one website that showed all the listings no matter who they were listed with. Now we're talking about moving, and want to see the website again...but she can't remember it. Does anyone know of such a website that the realtors have access to? Particularly in Michigan? Thank you

  1. Do a search for "MLS" in the city/state you are looking for. The MLS (Multiple Listing Service) is what agents subscribe to that lets other agents search their properties. Most services also have a public side that includes basic info on the homes. If that doesn't work or if you would like a referral to an agent in the area you want to move to shoot me an email. I recommend using your own Realtor rather than just calling the listing agents, as this provides you with representation of your own. Josh
  2. The most popular site for searching listings is www.realtor.com. Simply input specifics (zip code, etc) for listings in your area. Keep in mind, it may not be as accurate as your local association's website. For example, when a listing changes status, its input into the system responds in real time on our local site, www.har.com. Hence, you have the most update info with our local REALTOR association's website. Whereas, I've known listings that have sold still appear as available on www.realtor.com. Since you didn't mention what city in Michigan, I can't tell you the web address of your local web site. For that information you may want to call Michigan's Real Estate Commission or call a local brokerage firm. Verify whether or not status changes occur in real time when input into your local site. "...used to work in real estate..." probably won't give your mother full access to the site unless she's been paying dues into the association as a licensed agent or broker. Nevertheless, you should have public access to search listings with your local association's website. Best of luck in your move!
  3. Many Realtors have listing searches that are free. You can search for an Accredited Buyer's Agent and should find listing searches on their site that are specific for your location. When you see the extra initials behind a Realtors name it means that the Realtor has taken extra courses and done extra training to help serve your needs better. I am a Realtor in Oregon and I have this designation, the e-PRO designation and am working on two others. It is worth it to find a Realtor who has continued his or her education. We do this for our clients. Realtor.com will have many of the listings for which you seek and your local Board of Realtors should have a searchable MLS database. In our area, we have four MLS's to choose from and only a handful of us that use all four to search for properties for our clients. Many times you will find properties that are old on the internet on some sites, so it is worthwhile to find someone that wants to work on only your behalf and that can send you listings as they come on the market via email. They are the newest listings and you get to see them before almost anyone else does.
