What are the chances that you would get a burglar alarm if....?

I don't have a home alarm system. Someone broke into my house yesterday afternoon, took our xbox, laptop, and some other electronics totaling a estimated value of $1690 . A police officer took a report. Today, I received [in the mail] a copy of the police report along with a list of local alarm companies. And I'm thinking about looking into getting one. What would you do? PLEASE no alarm salespeople respond, just looking for an average homeowners answer. Thanks.

1. It's after the fact, but I would get a burglar alarm, for peace of mind, security and safety. In addition it would help to lower your homeowners insurance.
2. My friend had a break in this past summer, and her 16 year old daughter was asleep still. She woke up, and went into the kitchen and saw a man coming through the broken door. She yelled, and he ran away, but they installed an alarm system the next day just for piece of mind. She wouldn't stay home alone until they got it. Sorry you got ripped off so badly.
