Her body was stuffed into a suitcase and taken about 100 miles to Birmingham where it was buried in the back garden of a house. Her badly decomposed body was found in April 2006, three months after the killing. Last month a jury found her father Mahmod Mahmod, 52, and his brother Ari Mahmod, 51, guilty of murder after a three-month trial. Their associate Mohamad Hama, 30, had earlier admitted killing her. On Thursday at a pre-sentence hearing for Hama, the Old Bailey heard details about Banaz's last moments. Prosecutors said the three convicted men, along with two other suspects who are still at large, had carried out the killing fearing that the authorities were closing in on them. They believed Banaz had brought shame on the family by leaving her husband, an Iraqi Kurd she had been forced to marry at 17, and falling in love with Rahmat Suleimani, an Iranian Kurd. Her former unnamed partner had raped her as well as repeatedly beating her, the court heard. Hama, who prosecutors said had been a ringleader in the murder, was caught by listening devices talking to a friend in prison about the murder. In the recordings, transcripts of which were relayed to the court, Hama and his friend are hearing laughing as he described how she was killed with Banaz's uncle "supervising". "I was kicking and stamping on her neck to get the soul out. I saw her stark naked, only wearing pants or underwear," Hama is recorded as saying. His lawyers say there is no evidence to support the prosecution's claims. The decision to kill her came after a meeting on January 23 -- the day before she was murdered -- when the family decided to take action before the police could foil their attempts, said prosecutor Victor Temple. Hama is due to be sentenced on Friday with Mahmod Mahmod and his brother, Ari. * Email Story * IM Story * Printable View * Blog This Recommend this article Average (1 vote) 5 stars Sign in to recommend this article » Most Recommended Stories » Related Articles: UK * Briton Charged Over Step-Son's DeathSkyNews - 12 minutes ago * Crime figures stable but public fears still on the rise: reportAFP - 20 minutes ago * Russia expels four UK diplomatsPress Assoc. - 26 minutes ago * More Politicians Admit To Cannabis UseSkyNews - 38 minutes ago * Viking treasure goes on displayITN - 48 minutes ago Sponsored Links (What’s this?) 1. grim
  2. Sorry. I didn't make it to the actual text if there was any. Learn to cut and paste better.
  3. Wow, so long. Where does one start?
  4. damn, you copied and pasted the hole website
  5. The actions carried out by this certain family are downright inappropriate. 'bringing family to shame' there are more important things then shame. Yes she might have not been the perfect muslim role model but her familys behaviour towards her are not justifiable either, it makes the whole issue worse. It seems like some muslims are so deluded in culture and about the status and wealth of their family, they forget their faith.
  6. ok, yes, this is a terrible story. I have one word for you though. GENERALIZATION. You can't assume that all muslim people agree with this. Give it a break.
  7. You wanna know what I think? I think Culture has far exceeded its limits into the realm of Religion and these people shall pay for the price of their transgressions. I hope they rot in hell for what theyve done to her.
  8. honour killings have nothing to do with islam. They are a problem in the asian sub continent, across all religions. please learn to cut paste better
  9. What a waste of a question. No one on their right mind would find this anything but evil, so why are you asking Muslims to justify it? Do you get asked to justify christian atrocities?
  10. If it happen I think it's wrong. Muslims themselves will be Judge by God. I'm Muslim and I think everyone including Muslims will be judge by God.
  11. It is in no way right. These 'people' were unhappy about the woman's choice in partner which is why they did what they did. In reality Islam allows a person to choose who they wish to be their partner. This act is unjustified on all counts. May God bless her.
  12. This sad story speaks volumes about the so-called "religion of peace."
  13. Yeah, try asking again. That's a really crazy story, and I'd like to read how Muslim ppl respond to it, and what they say.
  14. This is cultural not religious. This type of thing is NEVER justifiable under ANY circumstances. How can it be less shameful to rape ,beat and kill a member of your own family, then it is for her to make a choice to live her OWN life? We need to take this seriously and help these women get away. The courts need to lock these people up and throw away the key.
  15. That is so sad, just goes to show how fkn crazy these people are, now lets hope they get the same treatment in prison
  16. This isn't right and Islam does not condone such actions.
  17. I read that story in the independant - she wasn't raped. She was murdered by her father and her uncle. I'm a Muslim - but this thing happens in the sub-continent culture meaning Indians do this stuff as well. My family will always condemn these acts. IT'S IN CULTURE NOT STUDIED IN RELIGION. NOT THAT I'M DEFENDING IT JUST FACT.
  18. If tihs is true, then it is not right. She might not be the epitome of a Muslim woman but then the family did not behave like Muslims either. Shameful and degrading.
  19. No true Muslim justifies this behavior in any way. These people committed an evil act and will have to answer to Allah for their behaviors. May Allah have mercy on the soul of this unfortunate woman.
  20. I believe it is possible to edit a question after you submitted it. It might also have been possible to give a short version of the story together with the link, so that the more pictorial aspects of this story could have been reserved to the connaisseurs. I think Reuters would also have been more happy with that solution. We know what you mean. Honour killings are terrible and I am glad to say that in more and more european countries authorities are waking up. It should be banned and punished drastically. I think it is correct to say that this bronze age phenomenon is not directly linked to muslim religion, but more to the local cultures where these people come from. But the muslim religion, being very dominant in these countries should do more to stamp it out. I hope that the muslims who try to do something about this (and they exist, do not worry) will be heard. They might be less photogenic than the Taliban warriors, but they really do their best. Have a nice day!
  21. Okay one word for you GENERALISATION! Honor killings are very wrong and should be punish to life sentence for the whole family are they are freaks and monsters . However this is not a religious thing it is a very wrong cultural thing. I can guaranty you Islam do not conduct murder in any way.
  22. IS this true. Oh god, Save humanity on this planet. If the same family member can go to this extent, than what about outsiders. Hari .. i am moved and i am in deep regret. Islam has been totally evilized. -- deito
