how can i talk on the internet for free?

hi could anyone guide me what i need to do to verbally talk on the internet with a CABLE INTERNET service for free. i have a acer aspire 5315 i dont need to video call so do i have to buy a phone to connect it to my lap top? i am from australia so is there any web site that host this? any help is much appreciated. thank you.

1. There is Skype,download it from Skpe.com,with it you can call pc to pc for free. There is also Yahoo IM,on that you can call pc to pc for free,there is a few others around as well,I hope that is what you was looking for and helps.
