Do you think section 8 cause problems in some neighborhoods?

Well to let you know I have no problem with section 8 renters but I am noticing when there is something wrong going on in a neighborhood the people blame people on section 8. I have never been on it before but I am on the waiting list. I just hope people aren't still that nieve and sterotyping innicent people. It's hard to survive out here you know. Please share your thoughts I just want to add that I am a single mother struggling. I get no assistance on living food or medical. Everything is paid late because my income can't afford my bills. But I do it and I make it to work everyday with no car so I want to say that everybody "low income" is not worthless and add that the programs are not falling out of the sky and because of that I have it sooooooooo hard when someone on welfair can get access to whatever they want and don't take advantage of the possibilities

  1. i hate it b/c I WORk hard to have the things i have....and for something to be GIVEN to someone to lazy to work..yeah it upsets me...they move in OUR neighbor and bring the property value down.....not saying that all low income people are low class..I'm just saying that most of them are not use to sh!t..and move out of the hood with their same hood mind frame...and it sucks!!!...
  2. From what I've read, a lot of families are on Section 8, and owing to the times we live in, many more will be before this system ends. Some of the things that the first poster said is true. A lot of these people have bad attitudes and even less respect for the property that they occupy. I don't agree that everybody on Section 8 is lazy, some are elderly and can't work, while others are disabled in some form, whether mental or physical......and these are the ones I feel who truly deserve assistance.
  3. I grew up in a nice middle class neighborhood.. Over the past 10 years my town made arrangements to make 8 homes a year section 8 approved.. It's been a disaster.. Grass 3 feet high until finally the boro had to pay to have the grass cut in these homes! Not to mention the ripped sofas being used as porch furniture.. oh and the 4 wrecked cars out front..ohh and let us not forget the almost nightly police calls to many of these homes...Grade scores in the previously wonderful school district went down the toilet.. Got so bad, my family and I moved.. Problems?? you better believe it.
  4. its not everybody on section 8,That acts a donkey only some ,Like the ones who upgrade from projects to section 8. Those ppl and mind I tell you I'm from the projects but my momma raised me to act like I have some sense.Anyway those ppl are the one who usually f*** every thing up in the neighborhood they move to.But as a home owner I would rather except section 8 as to just letting an average income person move into my property, Because section 8 comes to do regular home inspections. And the renter has to keep the property in order to keep them from being evicted. And my rent will always be on time I dont have to worry about the sob stories that ppl try to tell me about why they cant pay the rent that month.
  5. If it is being used as a "stepping stone" to better yourself, I have no problems with it. If you are one of those people who "play the system like a fiddle", then I have a problem with it. If you join the programs that Section 8 offers you shouldn't have to be on the program forever. They do offer you ways to save money which can be put towards purchasing a home, going to school and repair or buy a car to get to work or school. At least in my area, Meriden, CT they offer it. There are programs out there to assist "low income" folks get ahead. Anyone heard of the HUD Loans for low income people for home ownership? Offered to "Low Income" folks ONLY!...no "mediums" of "Highs"...You can be on SSI and still qualify. Payment is based on income. The only requirement is " no bad credit".You don't have to have any credit, as long as you have $1,000.00 in a savings account. Pretty easy, huh?. The problem is SOME folks "put nothing into it and want to get it all for nothing". Some use the language barrier as an excuse for not getting a job....If you know enough English to call a Welfare Social worker and complain that, " my food stamps no come", you should know enough to say, " want a job, no English, Help". Welfare, Food Stamp, Section 8 are "Stepping Stones"....not " ways of life"....
  6. I wish I could get me some damn section 8. But noooooooooo, I make too much money. I must pay $1,200 a month for a dang 2 bedroom, 1 bath apartment that doesn't even have a porch. I wish I could sit back and pay under $200 a month for the same dang thing. It's not fair for people who are educated and work hard. We're the ones who should get a discount. Not lazy women who have kids out of wedlock, with no skills. that should give them initative to get to work and prevent another bastard from forming.
  7. If the people are decent, no problem. But where I live, only 9 of the houses on the block is owner occupied. The other 21 are all being rented mostly to section 8 renters. The neighborhood has declined a lot and property value has gone down. I just had 3 sets of section 8 families move on both sides of me. The one on the right side, Single mother, 5 kids, but they keep to self and are pretty quiet and generally nice people. The ones on the left side of me ( 2 families). I wish they would leave. The upstairs one, thumps and bumps music all day and half the night until 2 am , the one downstairs, thumps and bumps music in the daytime ( sometimes), but have trash piled up in the front yard, and is too lazy to close the storm door, also the household has increased from 4 people to about 8. Some of the other problems I also see in the homes where section 8 is rented: -increased police calls and presence at the house -possible drug activity -lots of people hanging outside the residence -Many cars and much car repair going on the street -trash strewn up and down the street -Noise-Noise-Noise and more noise ( music and aruguing) -gunshots -general disrespect for neighbors, -unruly , unsupervised children running about and onto your property ( but this can happen everywhere) Like I said, If the people are nice ( and quiet), and keep the place up, I have no problem. My elderly mother is on Section 8 and my sister was on it for a short time herself (now she pays market rate rent l). Thanks for reading this long post.
