How can I get on a list for Section 8?

Yes I know I am going to get grief from people who think they are better than me, but I've fallen on hard times, and believe it or not, we PLANNED the two children I have, and if I KNEW where my ex husband was, I would have child support from him, but last I heard he's working under the table in another state to avoid the back child support, and NO that's not the man I married, he's truely changed for the worse. My daughters and I live with my parents and it is SO not working. I've only known of one other person to ever be on section 8 and I haven't seen her in years, I'm familiar with the 'list' and how they help, but how do you get ON the list?? Please, only people who know answer, not idiots who just want to chastise, because at one point I was comfortable, with a house, car, money, good job, and things just took a turn for the worse, and I have realized over the past year that I can only bust my a$$ so much, but without a little help, I'm never going to get back to where I was.

1. hud.gov maintains a list of the "section 8" housing agencies in every city and county in America. find the one for your community and call them for an interview.
2. each city that participates in this program --is available through the city hall area. ASK city hall luck
3. Section 8 is through your local city. Go to city social services as quickly as you can. Just call the city and ask for Section 8 housing.
