Do you think there is a Y!A Baby Name section naming "style" (or styles)?
I vote on a lot of name lists, and I can't help noticing the names look pretty similar to each other. A lot of the time people have exactly the same names on their lists as other people (I've seen a ton of Autumn Roses and Liam Connors). And I've seen people with a couple of the same names on my own list (or at least similar-looking). Do you think what with constantly asking each other's advice about what sounds good, we're all ending up with the same tastes, and our babies will all end up with a distinct Baby Name section-sounding name?

- having kids isn't like getting a toy dog or pocket poodle. Naming a child isn't like naming a doll.....but today's teens/young mothers seem to think of having kids the same way they think about getting a puppy or accessory. It's so tragic
- by the time they ask us and then add friends, moms and mother in laws ideas, then they end up with their own unique name
- Lol I do think that we get into that habit on here! I like this really unique name and asked a question about it, then everyone started doing that! ~I LOVE Derek
- I'm so sick of all these 'unique' names. There's a difference between quirky and just plain absurd sounding.
- Ha! You're right! I used to hate classical names, I used to be all Willow and Spring and Silverstar (yes, for a short while, I wanted to name my future daughter Silverstar) and now I like names like Skyler Rose and Camden Elliott. Totally Baby Name section names. But the thing is, we're all different ages, from different generations, and having our kids at different times. Plus, there are millions of people who use this site, all scattered across the country. Sure, there might be 10 Autumn Roses and 15 Liam Connors, but some might be in Texas, some in Florida, some in Alaska, and some in New York. So I highly doubt that our kids will run into someone with the same exact name. But it is a good suggestion that you've made. It's interesting...I really think there is a Baby Name section style.

- "Do you think what with constantly asking each other's advice about what sounds good, we're all ending up with the same tastes, and our babies will all end up with a distinct Baby Name section-sounding name?" No, not at all! I think a lot of Y!A users are young and they seem to stick to the trends pretty heavily. I also think that a lot of them are not actually having babies right now and their tastes will change. Also, a lot of the women on here are lower-income, Wal-Marty, middle-America, fast-foody types who also have a distinct style: tacky and unoriginal. They all seem to think that Jayden, Brayden Cayla, and Kaileigh are unique and cute -- and so-called-unique and cute are all they're interested in when it comes to naming a child. Other people put more thought into naming their children and come on here simply to share their ideas. They are interested in what others think and value the opinions, but lets face it: most of us simply like what we like, and in the end, we're going to use the names we want no matter what our audience tells us.
- I think that can easily happen. I am a member of a different babynames message board and there were VERY many names that the "regulars" all had as faves. Here I haven't noticed that as much. There are people who have similar favorites, but there are also several different styles represented here, and there seems to be a lot more newbie turnaround which always brings some new and interesting names.
