We'll say a daughter got on the above pc hp compaq sr2177cl, she began uploading photo's, while not knowing that sp2 was downloading in background "assume". Last restore point is SP2.Will NOT restore, due to corrupt files. Will Not boot from any disk other than an upgrade vista prem.home. So, ordered repair disks from hp. They won't boot. Nothing. Fighting with Hp now, they keep saying the pc is out of warranty. OK, But the disk I ordered are Not! So, I told them of a bulletin that I found stating that disk order from hp thru the mail will not mount. This is also on their web site. They are trying to ignore this fact. Situation Models configured with TSST TS-H652L, PBDS DH-16AYH or PBDS DH-16A1L Lightscribe DVD Writer drives may be unable to load or “Mount” Recovery Discs sent by HP Support. The algorithms used for disc detection incorrectly tries to mount the disc as if it was a DVD-R disc. The failure mode for this issue is after the user inserts the first disc – the system will not boot (at all) from the disc and the ODD activity light will flash at a high speed. This issue will only be experienced with Recovery Discs purchased or sent from HP, and will not occur when recovering from the recovery partition (F11) or from user created recovery discs. Recovery discs that do “mount” and load, but do not complete the recovery process are not due to this issue, but are caused by other problems not covered in this service alert. Solution Firmware updates to resolve this issue has been created for all three drives and are available for download from HP.
