I wrote this article just for fun on Selena because April 16th is national Selena day in Texas and I would love some feedback. Be honest. Selena's Big Day April 16th is national Selena day too bad she can't celebrate with us Before Shakira, before Jennifer Lopez and before Gloria Estavan there was Selena, she was the orginal latino singer that was on fire. She was selling millions of albums, winning numerous awards and taking over the Latino world. She was also a actress and a designer and created her own botique line. It was too bad it was all cut short. Novemeber 1995 was the day Selena's life was cut cut short when the preisdent of her fan club pulled a gun and shot her in the back. Now April 16th is known as national Selena day in Texas to morn the loss of this wonderful singer, but also to realize her accompliment's. She was born in Texas to Mexican American parents. Her father was a member of a popular latin music band Los Dinoa. She started singing at the age of ten in a band consiting of her brother Abraham and sister Suzette. They played weddings and carnival's and soon would take over the latino music world. Selena sold millions of copies of her album Conmigo and even won the Mexican Tejano award for best female artist. In 1990 she relased her softmore album Ven conmigo. A few more years would come and go and Selena released two more albums and even got married to her guitarist Chris Perez in April of 1990. In 1994 she made the transition into acting and starred in the movie Don Juan Demaccro. That year her band went on tour and played sold out shows. Things couldn't get any better, or so it sesmed, but little did she know her goos days were going down the drain. She was to begin work on her first breakthrough english album, but a tragic event would prevent her from ever seeing it get released. Selena opened up a boutique in San Diego. That was her first mistake of many. The second was letting her unstable fan club president Yolanda Saldivar run the boutique. Soon after the opening Selena's father informed her that Yolanda was steeling money from them. Her last mistake was going to meet Yolanda to fire and turning her back on her. Selena turned her back and Yolanda pulled out a gun and shot her. She died later in a hospital due to blood loss. It was shocking news to everyone. And soon Yolanda became the one of the most hated women on the planet. In 1995 she was sentenced to 30 years in prision with no chance of parole. It was a tragic day, Selena was only 23 at the time and had so much left to give. Her album, dreaming of you hit number one on the American billboard charts and songs like “Dreaming of You” and “I could fall in love with you” Became instant hits and can even be herd on radio stations to this day. Later in 1997 a movie was made about her life staring Jennifer Lopez. The movie got Jennifer Lopez a golden globe nomination that year for best actress in a drama/musical/comedy. Jennifer Lopez has followed in her footsteps by relasing five hit albums, a clothing line and being in more then a dozen movies.
