In response to the article listed below, what would Iraq be like if the US never invaded?

The article says Iraq will become a terrorist haven if we leave, but what would have happened if we never went there in the first place. I'm thinking we have made terrorism more of a reality through invasion. Under Saddam, there was not even close to the madness in Iraq that is there today. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070515/ts_nm/iraq_alqaeda_dc

  1. Saddam's son Uday would have came to power and would have made a lot more trouble in the middle east than there is right now considering he was already planning on invading Iran.
  2. The iraqi people are too uneducated to realise what they have been saved from. Remember they didn`t know any different did they ? All they knew was that crazy regime killing them off like flies for even looking at someone wrong. Now they have their freedom they don`t know what to do with it. It`s like taking the abused child away from it`s mother - it can`t function - doesn`t understand the rules.....................
  3. If the US never invaded, Iraq would have been, more or less, the same as before the invasion-no real terrorism. If there were no sanctions (in addition) Iraq could have been a developed country.
  4. iraq at the time was like schrodinger's cat. if we had never invaded, then there would still be a greater than 1% chance that they had WMD.
  5. Saddam Hussein was an evil dictator im sure nobody will deny this. Was he as close to mad as Adolf Hitler? Perhaps not, could it had turned into something that serious? Perhaps not. All in all, after 9/11, things and perspectives changed. Obviously Saddam had no like for the United States or our allies. Was this war neccessary? I have my doubts, albeit small ones... Is this world a better place without Saddam? i would have to say yes... I dont know, i think the war was just but perhaps not the timing of the war, nor the whole planning of the post-Saddam Iraq done properly. Thats my take.
  6. a prosperous, if somewhat dictatorial society.
  7. Well, for one the infrastructure would not be destroyed. The people would not have to go without electricity and other basic necessities. You're so right, before the US invaded, there were no stories of car bombings every day. The US govt. is responsible for the destruction of that country, not Saddaam. And mind you, he had nothing to do with 9/11. That was supposedly Osama bin Laden, who was also on the CIA payroll along with Saddaam.
