Why don't manufacturers make packaging more recyclable?

Every noticed the lid to your plastic water bottle is not recyclable? Did you know that civic recycling centers have to mark the percentage of contamination due to lids and other package components that are not recyclable? Wouldn't it help if manufacturers reduced the amount of packaging and made the remainder 100% recyclable? Of course, the first choice is not to consume more than necessary to begin with - i.e., fill your drink bottle at home and avoid purchasing bottled drinks at work, etc. We need an Green/Eco version of Angie's list to rate goods and services from an environmental perspective.

  1. All they care about is money....period...
  2. You must not have children. Once you see how toy manufacturers package toys, that bottle cap is nothing. LOL! I think it is more the responsibility of the consumer than the manufacturer. So many things that are recyclable are still thrown away. So, even if a package is 100% recyclable, it is still going to end up in the landfill the majority of the time. Unfortunate, but true.
