  1. my brother read timeline by michael crichton. i think he said it was a good book. haven't read any of the others. sorry.
  2. The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency books are really good, and so is In the Time of the Butterflies. Those ae what I'd recommend. We watched the movie of In the Time of the Butterflies in Spanish class (it's about the Dominican Republic and the dictatorship), which is also worth viewing.
  3. Out of these I've only read Nectar in a Sieve, so I guess I'd recommend that because it's pretty good.
  4. You know what you like better than we do, so why don't you look for some book reviews online and decide which two interest you the most? Taking complete strangers' opinions on which books to read is usually not a very good idea. You don't know anything about us, which makes our opinions unreliable. For example, I would suggest you toss the reading list and find some good books like 'Siddhartha' or 'Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance' or 'Nigger' (it's a great book, people. Written by Dick Gregory, a prominent figure of the Civil Rights movement who was the first black man to run for President http://search.half.ebay.com/Nigger-Dick-Gregory_W0QQmZbooks ) . Decide for yourself what is good, don't listen to us. http://www.swe.org/SWE/RegionH/Detroit/CDBooks/nectarsieve.html http://bestsellers.about.com/od/fictionreviews/gr/lady_detective.htm http://www.h-net.org/reviews/showrev.php?id=566 http://www.allreaders.com/topics/info_479.asp
  5. In the Time Of the Butterflies is really, really good. Julia Alvarez also has a couple more books that are great...there's one called "Yo!" that's really good.
