How can I get off college mailing lists?

In the past week I have received over 40 college brochures and such. How can I get off whatever mailing list my name is on?

1. You'll probably have to contact each school individually and ask them to stop sending you things. Usually this comes about because you checked a box on the PSAT/ACT/SAT to allow colleges to contact you - and they did. College Board sells your information (though not your specific score) so it may be possible to contact them and ask them not to give it out any longer, but the schools that have it will continue to use it. Even after you contact a school, be aware that the mailings may not stop immediately. Especially at the big schools, stuff like that is often processed weeks before it actually reaches you.
