Why do so many people in the M&F section say that "anything is possible"?
Why do so many people in this section justify their answers by saying that "anything is possible" when this is clearly not true? I'm not just talking about werewolves, vampires, mermaids, unicorns or any other mythical creature. Some things just aren't possible. You can't add 2 + 2 and get anything other than 4. Humans (including those with mermaid delusions) cannot breathe unaided underwater. The list could go on and on. It proves nothing, so why is this phrase rolled out so much? With a similar sentiment, why do people also say "just because you can't see something, doesn't mean it's not real"? While this is true to a certain extent, there are lots of things that you can't see precisely because they aren't real and don't exist. Why do people rely on this phrase so much? It proves nothing. Why, why, why?

- Well, there are lots of things in this section, even ones with the supposed "based on truth" tag that are so far removed from reality that the "anything is possible" bit means that any folklore has been so debased that . . . erm . . . . anything is possible. Puny argument I know, but so many people base their M&F on Disney & Hollywood carp without looking further. Furthermore, vampires & werewolves & all the stuff on here is about as believable as a horoscope so stop getting on your high horse about it when it's all a load of imaginary & made up stuff anyway.
- Because you CANNOT prove that something does not exist, you can only prove that it does. For example, if you did not see robins perching on your mailbox, it does not mean that they don't or haven't. It's that simple. Also, how else do you explain the random/scary/paranormal events people face? There was one up a few days ago about hearing noises like footsteps when nothing was there. There have been even weirder things, too. And also, the 2+2=4 thing reminded me of somethig I read in the book Savvy... it was within the first four chapters... why don't you look it up?!
- Many things in this world, scratch that galaxy, Scratch that universe are unsolved or not known at all. There is no way to prove things impossible or to prove them True if we haven't seen it yet. We know humans can reproduce because it happens everyday. We do not know if aliens exist because there is no documented proof of them or anything leading to that conclusion Except such a big place and only us. Based on this fact we cannot prove they don't exist because they cannot be found and there is no proof saying they don't. We know Spider Man doesn't exist in New York city because we don't see A wall crawler swinging around everyday. We do not know that A "sea monster exist" at the bottom of the ocean because we have never been down there. Thats why people always Say " Always expect the impossible", " Just because you cant see something, Doesn't mean it's not real". Human curiosity makes this statement true and False a the same time.
- because without belief the magic is gone.
- Well I agree and disagree with up to a certain point most things in life that you don’t believe are real most authors don’t make up stuff with some type of factual legend behind. Example I was reading a book this afternoon on Dracula and how he came to be they say his “creator” Bram Stroker got the idea mostly likely from Vlad the Impaler most people would dispute on whether these too have similar characteristics they both killed innocent people, they both had power, and they had an army behind them. Some of these users have metal illness or use this fun whatever is the latest “fab” and take that by storm When Harry Potter came I bet tons of users asked how to make spells and become wizards, magicians and wiccans and monster are the new thing so soon this will all pass. The first quote "just because you can't see something, doesn't mean it's not real" air condition you don’t see it but you it’s there when you feel it.
- Well the first part of your question is quite easy. Nothing is impossible, impossibility is an abstract concept which we rather amusingly have a word for. The thing that defines the reality of something is probability not possibility. It IS possible, no matter how much you don't like the idea, that werewolves/vampires/mermaids/unicorns et al exist, however it is so improbable as to be incorrectly but justifiably tagged as impossible. Impossible is a word we sling around too much as a culture without really understanding it, after all at one time it was impossible to sail around the world, it was impossible to fly, impossible for humans to travel faster than 30 miles per hour, impossible to travel faster than sound, impossible to defy the earth's gravity and go to space, getting the idea? Incidentally 2+2=4 only works in standard decimal mathematics where the values of 2 and 4 remain the same regardless of any other factors, impossibility ONLY exists within this field. As for the second part of your question this again confuses the line between possibility and probability, a completely undetectable thing (ie said invisible thing) could possibly exist but again the probability is so small as to make it justifiably tagged as impossible. Why people keep using these phrases is something for psychologists to answer, but I suppose it has something to do with the grey area between what is absolutely real and what our brains interpret as real with some people being more inclined to trust interpretation.
- anything is possible is true and if people didnt think it was then the earth would still be flat etc also since science is limited by censorship and the fact that some things are supposedly impossible then what else could you say
