Is it worth it to pay for advertising on angies list?

I own a locksmith/security business and I am looking at angies list. I am curious if there are any people that are purchasing adds from them and if they work. The ads can run $50 a month or more and its a 12 month agreement. So anyone in a similar emergency style industry that think its worth it? similar such as plumber, handyman, electrician etc.

  1. You should ask the people at angies list how many people search for locksmith's in your area. Then, do a search on your own and see how many locksmiths are already advertising on it. Then, check out some other sites and their cost per month - like the yellow pages or the local newspaper. $50 a month doesn't sound too expensive - I imagine if you get one call per month it would pay for it.
  2. Who the hell is Angie? Craig will allow you to advertise for free on his "List" and so does Kijiji. If you are going to pay for advertising I recommend Text directories like Yellow Pages. Just be sure to find a rep that will not screw you there is a huge mark up on the cost of the adds if you are not care-full you will pay as much as 500% above cost to your rep. There are some Very greedy people out there find someone fair to deal with, in our industry text directories are a good start, then work on your own website, and organic results on Google.
