When you are acting become the character, vacate yourself, exchange your thoughts and feelings for those of your character. 3. Do as much research on your character as possible. Don't just look up the time period, research your character's idiosyncrasies and their relationships with other characters. 4. When the director asks you to be off-book by a certain time be off book at least a rehearsal or two in advance. 5. Do not get "divaish" no one wants to work with a diva, and acting this way can get you kicked out of the show. 6. Do not get a hair cut or change your hair color after you have auditioned and have been cast. Many directors cast based on appearance as well as talent. However if the director asks you to dye your hair or get it cut have them go with you so that the result isn't horrendous. 7. Be willing to play any role that you are cast in. Even if you don't like it at first you may fall in love with it by the end of the show. 8. Don't fret about getting a "small" role. Supporting roles and choruses can be just as fun as lead parts. 9. Come to any work days that you can. Building the set is half the fun. 10. If you feel stupid doing it you're probably doing it right. If you don't get a part, be willing to work on other things for the show like costumes or props. If you're seen at the theater helping out people will get to know you. If everyone knows you're reliable then you're more likely to get roles in the future. 11. Most of all, have fun with whatever you do in theater. If you truly enjoy acting and you become professional then you will never have to work a day in your life....that's what my grandmother used to say to me.
