Advertising Question?

Hi everyone! I have a online business selling footwear..I sell mostly on Ebay..I do have a website too but I dont get alot of traffic & I really dont know alot about search engines & ect & what would be my best way to advertise online to be on the top of the list in the search engines..I know theres alot of people offering services and just dont want to waste money doing it to find out whos good & whos not....so if anyone has any info that would be great!!!
