Why does Apple Safari 5 not keep my top sites?

I downloaded Safari 5 yesterday. I liked the layout of the top sites page but when I add sites to it next time I go back they've gone. I pin them to it and they still go. Can anyone say why and if I can do anything about it? It's really annoying.

1. It's a history thing. If you delete your history then there will be no top sites. Check to see if you have your history set to delete after closing.
