  1. Your caseworker should have a listing of landlords in your area.
  2. Demand for Sec 8 housing far exceeds supply, even though some landlords are now getting certified because the rental market is bad. Did you get a list of certified (or approved) landlords from your caseworker? Check back and see if there are any recent additions to the list. Did you check craiglist, the local paper and check out every listing that said "Sec 8 OK" or similar wording? Did you get on the waiting list for any of those apts? Did you check nearby areas? Where-all does your voucher cover - the town, the county? Are you looking for a house? Forget it. There are rarely any houses approved for Sec 8. You need to look for an apartment. It is up to you to find whatever is available within your voucher limits, so you need to check out whatever might be available, and take it. You can only be fussy when you are paying all the bills. And you are finding out the limits of relying on taxpayers instead of yourself. It's very, very rough out there with so many wanting housing subsidies, and so little available.
  3. You have 90 days. Ask your case worker for help. You do not have to just stick with housing projects, you can rent from private landlords as well.
  4. Go to www.gosection8.com and search by city. realtor.saIlor
  5. You can transfer to any other Housing jurisdiction if they agree to accept your voucher. You can find a private owner to accept it. If you have a voucher, you dont have to live in a Section 8 site-specific building, or public housing.
