what can I do if someone has been using my email address and picture to send bogus emails to people I know?

Someone has been sending BOGUS emails -using my email address- to everyone on my contacts list. They have been sending ads for purchasing prescription pills from Canada and personal greets,such as... Hi and How are you and I haven't seen you in awhile,pretending to be me. I need to know what I can do. PLEASE HELP!

1. Change your password. And you probably have spyware so get your computer scanned.
2. Scan your computer using anti-virus for any security risk programs that could be hacking your email. also change your email password to one that would be hard to crack, meaning it has letters, numbers, unique characters, and is decently long.
3. 1) change password immediately from another computer (not your own) 2) change the alternative e-mail registered with your hacked e-mail account and your security questions (do not write them down anywhere) 3) scan your computer with the latest available antivirus for trojans 4) look at your "sent" or "outbox" folders and see what e-mails have been sent from your account, then contact anyone who could have been affected 5) try to look for any clues of who could have obtained your credentials
