If a band is not the standard, generic band from the mainstream, they are considered obsecure?
Just a little observation of mine. This cycle seems to be a miss or miss system to me. If I were to put together a list (something that seems to be a running tradition here, yet not something I would do) of "greatest" bands and inducted the usual suspects into the list, in theory, is no new news, so to speak, a daily list that people are bored of. On the flipside of the coin, if I were to create a list of bands who rarely appear on these oh-so-popular lists, then my list is out there...am I missing the whole concept of what people complain about? I personally, beg to differ, the whole argument to me is one big contradiction, what is your perspective on the topic?

- ill agree with that its mainstream or nothing. it made me sick and I stopped listening to the crap when I was 11. been 8 years never looked back, I listen to prog rock / prog metal ie. pink floyd dream theater queensryche opeth fates warning http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teZbA14ZSTA&feature=related glass prison pt 1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4kFXpQBqRfU&feature=related glass prison pt 2. by dream theater
- I think it depends on where you live. If you're in a social environment where everyone around you loves jazz, then they may not have heard of many rock bands. I have a distinct taste in music but within those limits, there is a huge range of what I like. I'd be interested to see you list though! Hope I helped!
- Considering that I live in a very musical place, I'd say that there's actually a large proportion of people who have heard of all the underground/obscure metal I listen to, so there's a fine line between unusual and obscure.
