Do they have these electives in American high schools?

At my Australian school I'm doing these and I'm wondering if these are also offered in American schools because I never see them listed when American teens list their electives. My school does (to name some) Media studies - the study of how media works with and affects society, stereotypes etc Modern history (my school doesn't offer ancient unfortunately) Business studies Psychology Food and hospitality studies Tech studies (woodwork basically) Childhood studies (child development, parenting etc) Information technology Legal studies Manda: I'm not saying Australian high schools are special at all. I'm just asking if they also have these electives in American high schools.

  1. at my school, we have everything except for "tech studies"
  2. Not in Scotland, anyway. The electives are CRAP. We HAVE to do English, Maths and Foreign Language, and at least 1 science, plus we don't get cool stuff like Modern History (I would LOVE that), Psychology, Childhood studies, Media studies or Legal Studies. Plus we also have to do PE and Religion and Philosophy. And we call them "subject choices", not "electives" which also sucks because I prefer electives. If I was at your school I would do media studies. modern history or childhood studies. But Americans tend to have a good choice too. AND they don't have to wear uniform. Consider yourself VERY lucky. They even block youtube, bebo and game sites from our computer time at school. AND yahoo answers, which is crap because I will need it a LOT when I go back to school.
  3. Listen, hate to break this to you. I've lived in so many countries, and Australian high schools really aren't that special. American high schools are sure to have the same thing, if not that then something better. I know, I'm going to get thumbed down because I'm not all worshipping Australia and everything. Just had to be said ^_^
  4. I have seen a couple of those. I was in a Psychology class and I loved it.
  5. we have those just with different names
  6. It depends on what school you're looking at and what grades [elementary, middle school, high school, college] My school has something that's a bit like business studies, media studies, food and hospitality studies combined. We don't have childhood studies, legal studies, or informational technology.
