Which of these authors write the most like Kathleen E Woodiwiss?
My Mom is a HUGE fan of Kathleen E. Woodiwiss and was quite dissappinted to learn that she passed away last summer. I tried to research other Historical Romance authors, but the lists are so long, I'd like to narrow it down a bit for her. So, out of the following list I've found, which 3 would you say write their books (stories) the MOST like Kathleen E. Woodiwiss?: Jennifer Blake Rebecca Brandewyne Shirley Busbee Jude Deveraux Johanna Lindsey Laurie McBain Christine Monson Rosemary Rogers Jennifer Wilde Christina Dodd Julia Quinn LaVyrle Spencer Virginia Henley Brenda Joyce Fern Micheals Amanda Quick Kathleen Winsor Patricia Matthews Beatrice Small What my Mom loved most about K.E.W.'s books is how the female thinks she hates the male, but falls in love w/him and the male thinks he hates the female, but falls in love w/her. I don't read Romance Novels, So I could really use the help picking these authors out for my Mom. Thanks : )

- I haven't read a romance novel in a very long time, so I'm not at all familiar with the newer authors, but, I used to love Kathleen Woodiwiss and Rosemary Rogers. I think your mom will love her as much.
- Jude Deveraux & Johanna Lindsay and sometimes Christina Dodd writes that way, but not always. Your best bet is prob a Johanna Lindsey novel.
- Go for Jude Deveraux, Johanna Lindsay and also Jule Garwood
- Actually, quite a few of the authors you've listed write that way. If you want to go with three only, however, I'd recommend Jude Deveraux, Johanna Lindsey and, perhaps, Rebecca Brandewyne. I really enjoy Amanda Quick's books - a pen name for Jayne Ann Krentz - but her stories are not usually hate/hate that turns to love/love, but a strong-minded female who goes for the somewhat tormented male, who finally succumbs. LaVyrle Spencer stopped writing a while back, but a good number of her stories DO have that scenario your Mom likes, but they are often more modern stories (though there are a few that would fit). A few others you don't have listed, but I would suggest include Mary Balogh, Mary Jo Putney, Loretta Chase, Julie Garwood and Jo Beverley.
- Many of the authors you listed write the "hate you now, love you later" story. But no one wrote quite like Kathleen E. Woodiwiss did. Of all the authors listed, I'd have to say that Johanna Lindsey's older historicals are probably the closest. :D Mrs. Woodiwiss specialized in a certain kind of romance (imho) which we call classic romance, or aka "bodice rippers". It means that the storyline is usually a historical where the heroine is forced to be with the hero (LOL!)... and falling in love comes later. Example Story Senerios... (1.) Daddy is making me marry this brute warrior for a political allegiance. (2.) Daddy is dead and it's my King who is making marry this brute warrior. (3.) Daddy has been killed by the enemy, and now the enemy is claiming *me* as his property (spoils of war), along with my land, my castle, my servents, etc. (4.) While fleeing to a convent (probably to avoid an arranged marriage), I was captured and now the brute warrior (my captor) is making me marry him. The majority of the historical romance authors of today write a tone-downed (politically correct) version of what Mrs. Woodiwiss used to write. So, you might be doing a lot of searching before you come across one. So, I'll try to name off a couple of titles that will most fit what your mom might be looking for... Try to find these books... (but check your mom's bookshelves to make sure she doesn't already have them.) "The Warlord" by Elizabeth Elloitt "Rosehaven" by Catherine Coulter "The Prize" by Julie Garwood "The Secret" by Julie Garwood "Ransom" by Julie Garwood "The Beauty" by Claire Delacroix "The Temptress" by Claire Delacroix "Knight of Fire" by Shannon Drake "Princess of Fire" by Shannon Drake "Defy Not The Heart" by Johanna Lindsey "Surrender My Love" by Johanna Lindsey "Hearts Aflame" by Johanna Lindsey "Secret Fire" by Johanna Lindsey "Fires of Winter" by Johanna Lindsey "Fairytale" by Jillain Hunter "Wonderful" by Jill Barnett "Warprize" by Elizabeth Vaughan Best wishes and good luck on your search... ~Tia
