why do black ppl lighten their skin? To impress? To be included?

I just dont get why black ppl (or majority of the black ppl in the media) choose to lighten their skin....drastically. Beyonce was much darker before she became a solo artist, Trina was much darker years ago, now this I Love New York chick Tiffany Pollard is doing it, there are several more but what message is this sending? This is a horrible example to any race with dark skin ppl, is this necessary to be included in society? Who are they trying to impress? I'm sure Beyonce wouldnt be where she is today is she never decided to lighten her skin...which is extremely sad in my opinion, she used to wear her hair in braids, but god forbid she does that now while she is an "A List" celeb. Its just extremely offensive how ppl do not accept who they are. To Jenny J, this wasnt a rant or something specifically towards black ppl, its common sense that everyone knows all races does work to themselves, please get a life, this was just a question to hear sensible opinions.

  1. In some parts of africa it can be viewed as royalty so when they get money they do it. Why do white people tan themselves? its self loathing also. Nobodys ever happy with themselves.
  2. maybe it looks good in tv then being super black? IDK its a ignorant question .
  3. becauce they crazy be your self ladys
  4. please can we stop with al the stereotyping !!!!! not ALL black people lighten their skin so next time, you ask 'why do SOME black ppl lighten their skin?' secondly, whatever anybody wants to do with their bodies, however harmful is their own business...i've never heard anybody ranting about some white people tanning/ having lip injections/butt implants as not accepting who they are....it's ok when white people do it,but when it comes to black people,we're ashamed of what we are...i think that is a very hypocritical point of view and besides that, not only black people lighten their skin..it is also done among many other ethnicites in parts of Asia i personally see nothing wrong with anybody lightening their skin because it's their body..the same way people who do plastic surgery are doing it to themselves....and lets be totally honest..the media's idea of beauty is 'white' and the few times black female celebrities are considered beautiful, majority are light-skinned or biracial..you can't expect that not to be enough pressure for dark skinned girls its the same way skinny girls are automatically considered beautiful..... i don't think it's fair to judge when so many of our celebrities (regardless of their race) have had some work done(pl.surgery) in one way or another
