  1. on a mac press: alt + cmd + 1 or select top sites from the history menu
  2. I don't know I have Safari. In my book it leaves a lot to be desired. I use IE 8, firefox, Google Chrome, and Safari. I would have to rate Safari at the bottom of my list. Don't get me wrong Safari runs good. It is just, well I don't know I guess just not got the easy to use features. If I had to pick only one browser I would pick Google Chrome.
  3. Go to Safari>Preferences and on the General tab click on the New windows open with dropdown and select Top Sites, you can do the same for new tabs if you wish.
