How can I fix my computer to watch embedded videos again?

I have always watched embedded videos for anime until like a few days ago. My dad had a scan done to check for viruses with a program we have used for months now. After that, none of the embedded videos show up. All I get is a black box with either an X or a picture of a camera in the top left hand corner. I'm still able to watch videos from the original site like veoh and megavideo but most of the videos I'm looking for are embedded and I have no clue what the original site is. If someone can help me figure out what to do, that would be great. Oh and I tried fixing the settings on the internet browser to allow for videos, sound, and animations to be played along with trying to right click the box to fix the settings there but that one didn't work at all. There was no settings when I right clicked. @Faron H I'll tell my dad. He has worked with computers for 20 years but he wasn't sure what caused this to happen. I'll let mess with it before I really mess things up lol

1. first try re-installing your internet explorer. there is no need for uninstalling. then the first time you go there it should ask if you want to install the active x control and work properly. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/default.aspx if not, try shutting off the anti-virus software and see if it works correctly, this could also interfere with it. Give feedback and we will continue after those 2 steps.
