What does "Water near power plants" have to do with contracting fatal Amoeba?
An article in the los angeles times about a 9 year old boy who died tragically after contracting amoeba from swimming in a lake... This article listed avoiding water close to power plants as a means of avoiding this.... How so?

- I think amoeba are present in most lakes, streams, rivers, etc. The only way to avoid the amoeba is to swim in water that is chlorinated. I'm not sure what water near a power plant has to do with that though.
- I remember a episode of Walker Texas Ranger where a company was dumping toxic chemicals down river of a reservation, killing the kids swimming in the water. No correlation to this, but it gives me insight on the bad acting of the people dying from the amoeba in real life. But your answer is this. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermal_pollution Power plants using the water as coolant, thermally change the waters natural temperature, killing everything - except... the brain eating amoeba that love it. Which makes it a possiblilty, I guess sort of like when you have a pool of stagnant water and misquito's come out of it. Eventually someone will say "hey, dont jump into that stagnant pool, it isnt a herbal wrap... its a misquito pit".. Atleast thats the answer I'm finding, its a uniquely specific thought .. "don't swim in that water near power plants". Then again, the back of the stroller at the mall had a bag smaller than a gallon sized zip lock on the back made of cloth that said "do not put child in bag". - See picture http://i38.tinypic.com/28s85x.jpg . http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=89869
