Why are corruption and conspiracy each accepted as a given in state and lower-level politics?
. . . yet many people can't conceive of it at the federal level? In fact, many people will vehemently defend the federal government on anything, but simply shrug off the many news articles listing the criminal activities at the local and county levels of government. What is the psychological driver for this type of delusional behavior?

- A need for a sense of security
- Perhaps the fault of the media...it is not realized that the media being owned by 4 sources, and in turn they own the smaller weekly chains...so, we now have convergence and at the bottom of the feed is local levels...so, all the news starts with the major dailies and people learn about senior government but by the time it filters down to the weekly flyer carriers the news is scarce on the local scene....we have Mr Regan to thank for this when he allowed greater concentration of ownership.
- When people are so absurdly loyal to their party, they believe everything that is fed to them. If their politician is convicted they think it is a conspiracy. They will deny the truth to their graves and hide their heads in the sand. Often they say the saw the truth in the media and most people with half a brain know how likely that is.
- These things are accepted in lower-level politics because of party loyalty.
